Examines how the U.S. healthcare delivery system is organized, financed, and structured and assesses its strengths and weaknesses. Reviews the roles of system stakeholders such as physicians and other healthcare professionals, hospitals and other healthcare institutions, private and public insurers, pharmaceutical companies, and patients. Discusses approaches to expanding healthcare access, improving equity, managing costs, increasing quality, and enhancing patient engagement. Explores how technology and other factors have shaped and continue to shape the healthcare system. Considers alternative healthcare system approaches, such as those adopted in other countries, as well as current issues and trends facing the healthcare system.
