Explores the major themes of patient safety science and the concepts utilized in designing safer healthcare systems and mechanisms for healthcare delivery. Focuses on the history of patient safety, political and regulatory drivers and their impact on patient safety, the importance of robust data capture in recognizing risks, and the inherent challenges of informatics and technology for patient safety. Applying these concepts guides design of safer healthcare.
