Offers intensive study and discussion of issues in learning and motivation. Examines behavioral mechanisms and cognitive processes that influence learning and performance. Considers both theoretical and methodological issues, as well as applications to real-world contexts such as psychology’s educationally relevant science of how people learn. Explores how humans (and animals) make relatively permanent changes to their thinking and behavior, based on experience, to adapt to environmental demands and why people vary in the amount of time, energy, and talent they invest in the tasks they confront. Specific topics may vary by semester.
