Approaches artificial intelligence as one of the most significant technological disruptions of our time, with profound economic, political, and social implications. Examines AI through the lens of political economy, asking how AI compares to past automation waves, how its effects ripple through labor markets into political systems, and how different jurisdictions (EU, US, China) and organizations (governments, international bodies, firms) attempt to govern risks while enabling innovation. Combines causal empirical research on employment and political behavior with policy analysis and applied labs. Offers students an opportunity to engage with cutting-edge empirical research to develop skills in policy analysis and produce original scholarship that contributes to our understanding of how societies can govern AI to promote both innovation and the public good.
