Marine navigation has been an essential competency of naval officers for hundreds of years. The safe and successful execution of our missions requires ships, submarines, and aircraft to be in the right place, at the right time, often in hazardous areas. We will cover the theory and practice of navigation with a combination of conceptual and hands-on training, including the fundamentals of the nautical chart, how electronic charts are used in the Navy, Rules of the Road, and relative motion. Upon successful completion of this course, you should have a strong foundation in nautical navigation that will be expanded upon in subsequent Naval Science courses and in your naval careers.
