INNO 6425 — Acquisitions, Alliances, and Growth

4 semester hoursGraduateLecture

Analyzes whether, why, and how firms expand their operations into new business areas by questioning decisions to grow (e.g., through vertical integration or diversification) and decisions to do so organically or through alternative mechanisms such as acquisitions, alliances, franchising, corporate venture capital, and private equity investments. Includes the study of how organizations evolve and transform over time. Uses rigorous case-based discussions, expert readings, and major current events to discuss issues related to the choice of make, buy, or partner. Evaluates how these different strategies are used to help firms become more competitive and innovative.
