Introduces cultural humility as a framework for enacting equity and justice in healthcare settings, with an emphasis on scientific and structural racism and anti-blackness as a social determinant of health. Offers students an opportunity to engage in self-reflection and discuss health inequities and the experiences of historically excluded, marginalized, and minoritized communities. Investigates frameworks for articulating intersectionality and dismantling power structures. Presents methods for analyzing oppressive misconceptions, ideologies, and threats to justice and inclusion. Reviews how to actively dismantle barriers to health equity at personal, interpersonal, and institutional levels. Describes how to build confidence partnering with communities; acknowledge historical biases and intergenerational mistrust toward healthcare providers and institutions; and build partnerships to empower patients, clients, and community members with opportunities for optimal well-being.
