ENVR 5550 — Climate Modeling, Adaptation, and Policy

Examines the physical, biological, and chemical basis of climate change and provides context on how different components of the Earth system interact, with a focus on the carbon cycle. Provides opportunities for students to create simple climate models and build on this knowledge by analyzing the frameworks and models used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to inform policymakers. Presents a holistic view of climate mitigation and adaptation strategies by discussing tools and concepts including integrated assessment models, model-data comparisons, and methods to evaluate the social cost of carbon.
