ECON 3720 — Economics of Conflict and Peace

Applies economic analysis to the choice between violent conflict and peaceful settlement in dispute resolution at the macrolevel (for example, interstate war, terrorism, genocide) and microlevel (for example, gang warfare, human trafficking, cybercrime). Offers students an opportunity to build a toolkit of models and methods to study this choice such as rational choice theory, game theory, behavioral economics, identity economics, and network economics. Reviews empirical research into the sources of conflict and risk factors for war.
