4 semester hoursUndergraduateLecture

Provides opportunities for students to pursue audio projects in the recording studio around a semester's theme. Each iteration explores audio design at a unique juncture of theory and practice, introducing a novel technology or performance practice. All projects develop paradigms suggested by readings or notable pre-existing audio works. Projects may involve recording, editing, and producing music, spoken word, or sound material across formats including mixed media, web, broadcast, film, dance, and live performance, as well as the composition and recording of original vocal and instrumental music. The instructor engages students in theoretical discussion and facilitates project presentations in a workshop setting.
