Surveys the key challenges in the evolution of democracy, economic development, and adaptive authoritarianism since the end of the Cold War. Examines the geopolitical aftermath of the Cold War, democracy and development in the Global South, economic and political transition in the former Soviet sphere across Eurasia, the spread of neoliberalism and the globalization of the world economy and its impacts, and the ways authoritarian regimes adapted and persisted despite internal and external pressure for liberalization and inclusion.
