Examines Israeli politics and Israel’s diverse cultures. Emphasizes the rich cultural fabric of Israeli society, the Israeli political system, the startup nation innovators, and some of the tensions and contradictions that lie at the heart of Israeli society. Covers the intersecting histories of Ashkenazi (European) and Sephardic and Mizrahi (North African and Middle Eastern) Jews; Christian, Muslim, and Druze citizens; Orthodox and secular populations; as well as of the immigrants from Russia and Ethiopia. Introduces the history of Zionism and Palestinian nationalism and touches on some aspects of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
