Studies how science, as a body of knowledge and a method of obtaining knowledge, shapes how humans know the world. Utilizing a combination of historical and philosophical methods, known as the history of science, investigates how scientific knowledge has evolved over time, including the rise and shaping of disciplines. Specifically, explores pure knowledge of nature; the development of scientific techniques and spaces such as the laboratory, museums, and field sites; the relationship between scientific knowledge and other forms of knowledge, such as religion and cultural practices; and how science influences and is influenced by society, culture, infrastructure, and underlying historical contexts.
