DANC 2610 — Introduction to Movement Analysis and Notation

Investigates contemporary issues in dance notation and movement analysis. Introduces students to a range of frameworks for distinguishing features of movement. Assists students to analyze and perform by identifying significant elements of dance, as well as create a living archive. Explores organizational principles and approaches of choreography and dance notation to expand students’ critical stance toward composition and preservation of dances and the social and cultural structure in which they are housed. Examines a broad array of theoretical approaches to dance analysis as they apply to different dance forms and contexts. Offers students an opportunity to become more articulate in analysis and performance.
