Aims to refine students’ understanding and implementation of the technical and artistic aspects of classical ballet. Coursework is rigorous in content. Builds strength and stamina through movement sequencing, presents technical and musical challenges, and explores the aesthetic principles of the art form. Emphasizes the integration of movement material with cognitive operations and movement intentions to develop the psychology of the performer. Readings and written assignments are integral to the course to promote further critical thinking and theoretical analysis of ballet while historicizing its practice. May be repeated three times.
