CHEM 5100 — The Ethical and Responsible Conduct of Chemical Research

Covers the ethical norms, practices, and standards of conduct that researchers must abide by to ensure the public’s continued trust and support for research. Students analyze and evaluate the ethical dimensions of typical research situations individually and with their peers. Discusses how to engage in ethical decision making when the stakes are high, personal, and when the issues are not clear-cut. Addresses laboratory safety throughout as it relates to the relevant concepts of research ethics. Intended for advanced chemistry, biochemistry, and allied undergraduate majors and master’s students interested in pursuing a research career.
