Covers, in critical depth, the political and socio-cultural formation, development, and elaboration of the modern museum and the arguments to which it has recently given rise, with a focus on collections in the Age of Empire and after. Draws on interdisciplinary approaches to the study of museums and heritage to explore institutional practices and their connections to nationalism, empire, coloniality, anticolonial struggles, and, most recently, decolonization. Topics include the ethics of collecting, the politics of display, colonial looting, ongoing debates about repatriation, and the role of AI in immersive exhibits.
